I am well into my 70’s and live in the North East, no honest it is nice up here. Between 1976 and 1980 I lived and worked in Hong Kong and learnt to fly and gained my PPL with the Hong Kong Flying Club on the C152. I would then, when the fancy took me, book a club aircraft [C152] and go for a spin. Very exciting playing with the big boys taking off and landing at Kai Tak.
Returning to the UK I flew a little but the costs were very expensive, either that or I earned less than I did in Hong Kong. My PPL expired and I did not bother to renew and have another medical.
I started to flight sim and I guess I have tried them all; MSFS Sublogic 1.0 up to MSFS FX SE, Flight Unlimited II, Pro Pilot by Sierra and many others I don’t even remember now.
With MSFS FX SE I had pounds and pounds worth of add ons, Orbx stuff, A2A Aircraft etc etc and when MS said they were stopping and not going to make the next update version I became very angry and all the money I had over the years sunk into MSFS FX SE. I deleted the lot and swore never to go near MS again. I got XPlane 11 plus Orbx stuff [True Earth UK etc etc] and whilst I agree XPlane is not really supported as well as it could be the flight model was good.
I get a little bored now with my single and lonely flying XPlane 11 even with FSE which I enjoy a little. Despite my thoughts of some years ago thinking of returning to MSFS if the PC will handle it and perhaps join event flights for the company. Regards Peter

You've been on a remarkably similar journey to me - I started out with Flight Simulator 2 though. I got a copy of it running in an emulator a little while ago - this should bring back some memories:
