Despite my user name I'm very much a male and apologies I'm another Jonathan, though i'm mostly known as Jon or JP.
I have no pedigree with Flight Sims but I have been dabbling with computers since owning a VIC-20 in my childhood, both the programming of and gaming. That gives a pretty big clue to my age and I can confirm that I have recently passed the mid century mark.
I have however always been interested in planes due to my dad serving in the RAF (not as a pilot) and therefore never being that far away from them. I even did an aerospace engineering degree which did include a proper flying lesson. However my career has lead me things that float rather than things that fly.
Anyway, I was drawn into the world of flight sim by MSFS 2020 and how amazing it looks and I am not sorry. Its taken me quite a long time to get up to speed mainly due to not being able to commit much time, but i have reached a level of confidence with GA aircraft and have yet to really try the big jets. I have fallen into the trap of wanting all the gear and trying the add ons i dont necessarily need and am already coveting a better graphics card.
I have been joining in the last few group flights which has been good fun, and will look to press the speak button sooner rather than later.
Right that's enough for now!

Hi JP,
Glad to see another chap of "a certain age"! Must be something about our advanced years that makes flight sims attractive! Graphics card envy... that's a slippery slope - there's always a better (and more expensive) one. I'm stuck with what's inside my iMac, but I did get all the gear - proper joystick, throttle quads, rudder pedals, but it's really made a difference to flying, much more realistic and fun. Money well spent in my books.
